Europe Digital Manager
This role can be based anywhere in Europe
350.org is looking for an experienced digital strategist and campaigner, to broaden our base of supporters in Europe, and to engage them through digital tools and channels in order to win campaigns and build a more powerful climate justice movement. This is a full-time permanent role, based anywhere in Europe.
350.org is helping build a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organising, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organisers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organise in a new way – everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyse transformation around the world. The values that guide and drive our work are listed here.

About the Europe Digital Manager
Supporters play a key role in our efforts to dismantle the pillars of support of the fossil fuel industry. We have built over the years a dedicated community of people who engage with 350’s work in Europe by taking digital actions, donating, and at times moving up in their leadership journey to become key organisers in our network.
In this next phase of our work, we want to better understand our target audiences, and how to reach and engage them, in line with our strategic objective of building a powerful climate justice movement across Europe, centred on the people and communities who have the biggest stake in addressing the climate crisis. We also want to move towards a stronger grassroots donations model over the course of the next few years. For that, we need to broaden our base of supporters across languages and geographies in the region.
This role will be responsible for delivering results on those fronts, including by directly line managing the Europe Digital Campaigner, guiding and holding accountable country staff with digital responsibilities in France, Germany and the UK, and leading on key digital campaigns and projects in the region.
The role’s main responsibilities are:
develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate 350’s digital campaigning and supporter engagement strategy in Europe (including an audience strategy and a digital fundraising strategy), in line with and in support of agreed national, regional and global campaigning and organising goals, holding accountability for its success
provide guidance, support and accountability to national staff developing their national digital strategy and plans, helping them identify opportunities for impact, growth and engagement, and the right digital tools to achieve them
Digital campaigning, content development and relations with our supporters
oversee and support the development and execution of digital campaigns, digital engagement and digital organising projects across the team
develop impactful supporter journeys to ensure engagement and campaign impact
communicate and oversee communications with supporters, in multiple languages, in alignment with 350’s vision, voice and values, through email blasts, videos, social media, blog posts and other digital formats
manage and monitor a regional email blasts calendar
manage, oversee or support regional and national social media channels in Europe
develop and run tests and experiments to improve reach, list growth, and digital engagement of supporters
provide quality guidelines and quality assurance for regional staff producing digital content
input digital content into cross-regional and global campaigns
coordinate online marketing and social media advertising plans and implementation, in cooperation with consultants or other staff
Training and movement-building
skill-up others (internally and externally) and create resources that increase capacity and ownership of digital work across the team and our regional network
spot and respond to opportunities for 350 to provide digital infrastructure and support, particularly among underresourced groups in the movement who share 350’s vision and values
support regional staff in using a data-informed approach in their campaigns, with focus and prioritisation of their digital campaigning and organising plans, with the use of tools and channels, and with coordination and communication around cross-national or region-wide projects and campaigns
collaborate with global digital campaigns team and community, global projects teams, fundraising and engagement specialists and the tech team on shared projects, messaging and framing, as per the European and global digital strategies
provide smooth information flows and swift problem-solving of emerging issues
keep the role's direct report (Europe Digital Campaigner) accountable while providing the support they need to succeed and grow
hire and onboard temporary regional digital staff
centre and be vocal about the role and experience of our supporters in all of the work we do
practice and encourage the practice of creativity and innovation in digital work
At least 4 years of relevant experience, including in developing and implementing online campaigns for change, such as petitions, social media actions or creative online disruption tactics, managing supporter communities (such as large mailing lists, online groups, subscribers, social media followers, online spaces), and digital fundraising
Experience developing supporter engagement strategies and journeys, or experience in digital organising and mobilisations, to deliver campaign goals
Ability to explain complex ideas in a simple and easy to understand way, and outstanding content writing skills, in a variety of formats
Knowledge of and ease in using digital campaigning or organising software, such as mass mailers, CRMs, databases, campaigning tools
Experience in managing projects, and line managing or supporting staff
Ability to be flexible and respond rapidly to external developments through online channels
A strong commitment to centring justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
Excellent written and spoken English
A work attitude that emphasises collaboration, problem solving, creativity, care and joy
An ability to prioritise among competing requests and opportunities, and support others to do so
At least a basic knowledge of climate change issues and a dedication to support and strengthen the climate movement
Desired (but not required) qualifications
We don’t expect everyone to have all of these!
Experience with online marketing and social media advertising
Experience in data analysis and testing
Familiarity with ActionKit, Canva, Periscope
Understanding of digital platforms and formats (e.g. blog posts, YouTube), the audiences they attract, and ways of engaging with them
Sensitive to cross-cultural issues in communication to audiences across Europe
Ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed, multicultural team, where work happens online and across different time zones
Working knowledge of other European languages (particularly French, German and Dutch)
Personal connections, because of identity, lived experience, volunteer experience, or professional experience to the audiences we want to reach with our work (young people, people impacted by social and economic injustice, people with marginalised identities, people at the frontlines of the climate crisis)
Position type: Full-time employment contract (with flexibility of 80% working hours for the right candidate).
